Registration for breakout sessions will take place upon arrival on Friday evening at the welcome desk in the lower level of The American Club. Guest may register for four sessions each.
Kids' Books for Adults: Some of the best and most innovative writing in recent years has been in the area of young-adult fiction. In this session, meet great authors and review books that, even though marketed toward young adults, grown-ups should not miss.
Book Club Master Class: Expert Schwartz Book Club Coordinator, Jane Glaser, will lead you and members of your club through the process of selecting books. Bring your questions. Of course, Jane will have a myriad of suggested titles on hand.
New Books for Fall: Just published – or maybe even a few weeks away – here are the newest, most important books of the season presented by 20-year veteran and Schwartz Senior Buyer Daniel Goldin. The first 50 participants will receive an advance copy of a new fall title.
Great Memoirs: No books have dominated the bestseller lists the past few years like the biographies and memoirs. Schwartz Bookshops' own Mary McCarthy will lead you through the best of the best, new and old.
Books Men Love: Whether for your reading group, gift giving or your own reading pleasure, this session will highlight great books with a masculine emphasis.
Women's Classics: Calling all Austenphiles! This session will not only examine the core classics but also introduce contemporary books inspired by and based on writings from the masters.
Holiday Gifts: You hear her monthly on WUWM with book recommendations. Mary McCarthy has been saving the crème de la crème all of 2006 to help you match the best book to every person on your gift list.
Vintage Books: Vintage Books is a preeminent imprint and a pioneer publisher in creating guides for reading groups. Russell Perreault, VP/Director of Publicity for Vintage and Anchor Books, is here to give you an insider's look at books new and old, as well as resources available specifically for reading groups.
Wisconsin Author Panel: Go beyond the experience of reading to the source: the writers themselves. CJ Hribal (The Company Car) moderates a panel that includes some of Wisconsin's premiere authors: Lan Samantha Chang (Inheritance), Liam Callanan (The Cloud Atlas) and Kris Radish (Annie Freeman's Fabulous Traveling Funeral).
Club Dynamics: Bring your problems and help solve those of other clubs. We will have an open discussion about common bumps and bruises that can hinder longevity and full participation -- and ways to nurture a healthy reading group.
